EVALUATION QUESTION 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

We made sure that our products were viewed by a wide range of people. By uploading it onto you tube we managed to get the feedback by comments and "likes". We also uploaded it to various social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. This allowed us to get a wide range of people viewing it. In the first 2 days of the video being uploaded, we had received 300 video views on the Youtube page, as well as how many people viewed on the Social networking sites.

Video Feedback

We received video feedback from 3 people, all from different colleges. This allowed us to get a range of opinions from different places, and makes sure that everyone agreed with our designs and enjoyed them.
We used these people to give us video feedback for our Indignation trailer. There are different advantages of doing a video/interviews. One Advantage is that it gives a lot more personal response. It allows true feeling to be put into the answer (even some jumps if the trailer is scary enough). The answers tend to be a lot more in depth and full. However some disadvantages to this is that the process is a lot more time consuming and means that a video team needs to be on site to record the feedback.

Here are the 3 people we used for video evidence:
Ryan (18), student at  John Rigby College.

Mike (25) Media Teacher at Runshaw College.

Hannah (17), Student at Winstanley College.

We used these video feedback to get different advantages and disadvantages to our video. We managed to get a couple of bad points, and good points to our design. This made the conclusion easier as to what needed to be done for the next update.

One point that Mike (25) came up with was the graphic animation at the end. He said he really enjoyed this as it gave off a good ending and allowed the name of the film to really stick into the consumers mind. This made sure that the viewer would remember the film name, and tell all there friends to watch it as they can clearly remember the film title.

Ryan (18) finished off his feedback by saying he really wanted to go watch it at the cinema. This made the whole group pleased as we had hit our target age group. We was aiming for the age range of 15-20 year old teenagers. These are the people who are more likely going to the cinema to watch this genre type. As Hannah is 17 and said she thought the trailer really looked good, this only enhanced the fact that we had hit our target age group.

Hannah (17) really like the fact that the locations looked professional and made the scene look a lore more interesting for the viewers. She believed having the scary setting allowed the trailer to really have an "scary" feel.

Digital Feedback

Here was certain feedback that was generated from social networking sights. Facebook allowed us to post the video to certain friends and family members. This allowed people to "like" the video and say different points that they enjoyed about it.
Below is a print screen of the Design on the social networking site "Facebook". It shows that quite a lot of people have looked and visited the face book page to watch it.
It shows that "21 people like this" however this has only been on for a couple of days. It hasn't been given chance to allow the whole people to view it.

There was other feedback that was generated from online websites. Below is a presentation, to the different evidence that we managed to collect. This allowed us to figure out whether people enjoyed our trailer and allowed feedback for the products produced.

For the film trailer we decided to make an animated version of the map. This would include the name "Victorr Thistle" which would then spread out to go to each individual name that was created

Thsi video below helped me to create the effect of the moving letters. I used these techniques as shown but only on the singular letters rather than the whole word/name.

This is the final piece, we are unsure whether to use this in the final design of the film trailer:

Editing the footage

These past few days we have been moving our footage around. We have started to re-arrange the order of the clips according to our new script. We have inserted our new footage of the old, boarded up building in Wigan. The clips we have collected will be transitioned from one to the next using a fade (to black/white depending on the image). To do all of this we have use Premiere Pro.

The sounds that we have collected and created for our trailer such as the sound tracks backwards , heavy breathing, screaming, foot steps, doors slamming shut etc, are all successful. Yet we recorded the mother of one of the team members reading the reporter script. We thought that although her voice was good and fitted the part she did not have enough emotion and variety in her voice. We re-recorded this with another family member of the team and this now sounds much better.
To complete the trailer, we need to add the sound and preview screens/credits.

News Bulletin

For the beginning of our trailer, we where thinking of having a news bulletin. This was to allow the audience to be aware of the plot of the film, and allows the film to still be inviting for the audience and yet restricts what they will know about the film, leaving them wanting to watch the movie.

As most trailers now tell too much of the story, we are going to carefully plan out our sequences ensuring we don't reveal too much, but still leaving the audience itching to watch the film.

We have someone in mind for the role of the anchor woman (Molly's Auntie) who's voice could be suitable for the trailer.

To create the image, we created a new image in Photoshop. We styled the shapes into a style similar to BBC news, and made sure the background was transparent to make sure the video could be seen behind it. The evidence of what we did is below.

In order to add our own news bulletin we looked at the colours, shaping and overall use of existing news reports on TV. Here, we saw that the red was used to represent the urgency of the report. We took inspiration from this and used the influence of the representation within our own work.

Font Research

I tried out different fonts to get the right font for our poster.

These are a few fonts that can be related to the normal horror poster's that are on the market today.
I need to develop and make sure I get the right font. I can edit a couple of these and take my research further and produce a final font.

As a group we really liked this font, it gives the "static" effect that is included in televisions and when camera's are dropped, as we drop a camera in a trailer it can be releated to this to make the poster and the trailer have a mutual feel.

Molly created a poster that we have tested to make sure the font works with both the images and the credits. The font is distinctive and can be read easily. This makes sure that we can use this and include it in our final product.

Filming; New Location

As we needed some new footage of an actual building, we didn't have to go back to Preston to get all our footage.

On the 2nd of December we went to get some covering footage of a building in Wigan. The building is rundown and looks the same as the Preston building that we previously filmed.

We took some footage of a scan of the building include a couple of good shots of birds going in and out of the windows

News Report Voice Recording

Yesterday I went home to record some test news voices. I managed to get a couple good recordings and opened them up in Audacity.

I loaded the voice clips into the program.

Highlighting Letters in our Trailer

We have a looked at The Da Vinci Code trailer to display our ideas for the lettering used within our trailer to reveal the name of the murderer. It highlights the first letters from each victim and brings them together to create the complete name.
The section of the clip we're focusing on begins at 2 minutes and 12 seconds.

Map Edited Images

To add to the mise on scene of the trailer, we decided to create a "map" mapping out the killings that took place, and who was murdered.

It also gives one of the character's names "Victorr Thistle" He has this name as the 14 murders he has committed, each victims first letter of their names spell his name - this is why he has two "r"s in his name. This could maybe convey something like the case of Jack the Ripper where two people were killed in the first night but he was disturbed whilst murdering the first victim and found another victim with the same letter, therefore giving him two R's.

Joe used After Effects to change some of this.

To give the effect that the first letter is significant, I created a new title and selected a blue circle over the first letter of the Letter

I then placed a black box over the top of the image, this allows the images around the selected letter to be black so more en thesis is placed onto the text

I then used the effect "Colour Key" and selected the colour blue. This changes the layout and lets the blue circle look like it has been present. It makes it look a lot more important and makes the viewer really look into the letter

I then added a fade effect which makes the images interlink so it was all one video.

New Photoshoot: Empire Magazine and Action Shots

We decided to go and take a photo shoot and take pictures of more interesting, and more exciting action poses.

Below is the contact sheet on the different images that we took

Monday the 14th November

Today I (Taylor) started to edit our footage together. As the script is now finished (sounds and footage) I started to try to plan out the footage and sounds following the script.

We all looked at our trailer so far and have all decided that we need more footage and so are going to do some voice recordings, and other things to use in the trailer.

  • Blood drip on hand
  • Zoom In
  • Jump cut to other parts of the room
  • Looks at the 'Help Me' blood splatter

  • Speed up footage
  • Merge footage with text and footage with no text
  • Stop on the wall
  • Show the 'Help Me' writing
Running:
  • Running
  • drop the Camera
  • Sound clip of people shouting run
  • Fade to darkness
End:
  • Joe moving the door handle very slowly
  • open it quickly to reveal nothing
  • Fade to darkness
  • Whistling begins (song)
  • Coming soon screen appeared
News Sequences:

1 - 10 Year anniversary (Beginning of the killings/murders)
   - Sightings in the building
   - Strange noises/happenings

Poster/Magazine Ideas

Steps needed to start the promo ideas...

1) Pictures of the characters in the film;

Majority of horror poster pictures have images of characters that have been distorted or changed to fit the film.
Below are a couple of pictures what kind of design horror posters have with face's and characters in the image:

2) Pictures of the location

The Main feature to these horror posters is the dark and sinister texture that is placed on top of the design. In order to get a good poster we need a good starting point and a strong idea.

The next step is to get all the images that was taken at the place of filming and figure out which is the best image for the poster.

Plan

In most horror movie trailers there is a certain orders that happen in the trailer
1)   The first part to the trailer is always calm and a soft music is played over the top.
2)   The middle part is where the crash happens. Something will pop up, a change in the story line, this is where people will get scared or get put on edge.
3)   The last part of the trailer is the cliff hanger. The part what really makes the viewer want to watch the    film.
These steps need to be taken into place in our storyboard. We need to figure out the soft music that is placed over the trailer to make the consumer being calm. Then the different camera shots need to be organised.  This needs to be in detail because fast camera shots will be needed so there has to be enough filming produced to get a good edit scene.

As we are filming on the 21st, A story board of shots and camera angles will be needed for a good filming.
