After speaking together, we have decided to create a horror/thriller film- mainly focusing on the horror aspect of it.
The main sub-genres of horror are as follows:
·Torture/Slasher- The torture/slasher film is one that depicts murder and death in a graphic manner (Films like Saw, Hostel, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) ·Psychological- Relies on the use of fears, guilt, beliefs, eerie sound effects and emotional instability to build tension and further the plot. The horror often does not come from gore or violence, or a monstrous other, but a normal human being, with a horrific identity. (The Shining, The Silence of the Lambs) ·Supernatural- Supernatural horrorfilms deal with the viewer's nightmares, hidden worst fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown (The Exorcist, The Omen, Paranormal Activity) ·Comedy- Links elements of horror with comedy. (Scary Movie, Shaun of the dead, Zombieland) ·Gothic horror- Combines elements of both horror and romance (Dracula, Frankenstein, Nosferatu)
Our film will be a hybrid, and will combine, the psychological and torture/slasher elements of a horror film, as well as the tension and suspense created by a thriller film, ie, Psycho.
After looking at the possible briefs, we have decided to produce a movie trailer as the main project, and alongside this, create a magazine front cover advertising the film, and a movie poster. We have chosen to do this, because it is likely to prove the most successful with some of our group having strengths in creating video, and some in print. Before we begin to produce our own work, we will research existing trailers and genres before progressing to looking at locations, actors, props etc.
